”The Schantzska house” (left side and red) is a building on Stortorget in the Old Town (Stockholm, Sweden), built in 1650. The gable is of German-Dutch type, called Nordic Renaissance. The gable is a so-called staircase, decorated with decorative anchor ends and sculptural details. Per Kamperin on Reddit
It is rather ironic that “the red building” has become an icon of the Norra Djurgårdsstaden neighborhood. The building was designed in defiance of an explicit directive from the City not to use brick in to prevent the building from competing with, or even asserting itself against, Ferdinand Boberg’s majestic cylindrical gasometers.
